Intro: Revolution (Is A State Of Mind) lyrics - Paula Cole
Some of us who have already begun to break the silence of the night have found that the calling to speak is often a vocation of agony, but we must speak. We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak. Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movement well and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us.
America, the richest and most powerful nation in the world, can well lead the way in this revolution of values. There is nothing to keep us from molding a recalcitrant status quo with bruised hands until we have fashioned it into a brotherhood.
A genuine revolution of values means in the final analysis that our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Every nation must now develop an overriding loyalty to mankind as a whole in order to preserve the best in their individual societies.
This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class, and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all men. When I speak of love, I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak response. I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality.
Revolution, revolution
Revolution is a state of mind
Revolution, revolution
Revolution is a state of mind
Revolution, revolution
Revolution is a state of mind
Revolution, revolution
Revolution is a state of mind
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Shake The Sky lyrics - Paula Cole
Sister gonna wake up
And shake the sky with her cry
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
Sister gonna get up and wipe the tears from her eyes
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
Sister gonna stand up to all the bullying lies
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
Sister gonna look at the man with the blood in his eyes
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
She gonna rise
Changes!
Changes that need to pass
A lot more human kindness in this life
Changes!
Changes that we demand
For the content of our character, the vision of our minds
The labor of the grist-mill of society
Is the hands and sweat and backs of who have least
Invisibles and overlooked and disenfranchised
Are holding up the sky
Holding up our lives!

Blues In Gray lyrics - Paula Cole
Charlotte she lingered and lived in the shadows
Helping Mother in the kitchen for hours and hours
Avoiding the charmers, Svengalis and Lords
I sing for the shy girl over minor chords
Blues In Gray
In a dream she ascended outside of her body
She looked down below her to the white fields of cotton
And she realized, she realized
Her dream was long forgotten
She peers out a mouse
hole to an alternate world
To her great, great granddaughters behind her
And she whispers, she hollers "Know freedom!
From Blues In Gray..."
Blues In Gray
Silent lyrics - Paula Cole
When Karl and his sister, united me in their tribe
I felt a strength in numbers embolding my shyness
I laughed at other people
At their bodies, at their hair
I became the vicious girl inside parroting her despair
And one day cold as calculation, Karl went too far
Intentional in his hurting, physical in his war
To the shyest one of all of us
The tenderest lonely heart
I watched in horror, helpless, silent, as the moment passed me, gone
Flying to the world tour, 25 and free
With condescending attitudes, from British men in cliques
When I imbibed too much Schnapps one night, in a Swiss hotel
One tour manager, felt this was the green light, pressed me down
On the bed, by my surprise, dick and tongue pressed hard
What a sad excuse of a man, thinking this what one does
Showing him out with deep disdain I kept the truth concealed
Cutting myself off from my own feelings, I kept on in silent hurt
My introversion in the kitchen, 30 years past, amongst the Moms
I don't share with them my secrets, staying safe from all their gossip
Their husbands in the parlor, Huddled close together
Palpable discomfort when I join them in their circle
Looking for a conversation I listen to them speak
Jockeying one-upmanship, subconscious insecurity
I add my twenty cents to the room - how flatly it does land
Unaccustomed to a woman of mind, they wish to conquer me instead
"Hush, child!" - I hear my great grandmother whisper in my mind
It remains as relevant today here amongst this boring party
I don't know where I stand
I go rogue, go quiet quicksand
Folding into myself, losing voice, to a moment passed again
Absorbing painful lessons, standing on my ground
I advocate, I'm blue in the face, I'm the leader of the crowd
But inside I'm a coward, still the little girl
Bystanding in my silence next to Karl bullying her
For nothing is so simple, the bully is the weak
Afraid to be tormented, tormenting for pre-empting
For Karl yearned for Father, for love, for attention
He acted out the monster inside his lonely hurting
There is never enough love, there is never enough listening
There is never enough of our mothers, to give us all we're missing
I took on the silence, mandated by generations
But no more shall I be the mute and deaf and dumb submissive
Go On lyrics - Paula Cole
Freedom is another word for facing all my lonely fear
Freedom is your final word for getting off the ledge with me
Will you ever share your secret world?
Your dreams beyond the confines of our hurts?
Go on, go on, go on
Go without me
I'll be waiting
Go on, go on, go on
Cause next time, my darling
It'll be me
Something pulls you out of bed, and down the street and in the car
And off to war with demons wrestling your subconscious, I've no control
Let the love go free into the woods
Wild like a cold coyote pulled
Go on, go on, go on
Go without me
I can't wait then
Go on, go on, go on
Go without me
I'll go without you
There were promises made
With the best of our dreams
But we know you're the lover
And I am the leader
And in strength I accept you
As you sail down the river
To find the elusive
A hummingbird phantom
After some gold rush
A fool rushing forward
I'll wait on for you
And I will be tortured
But I know patience
And I know virtue
And you soon will tire
Of hummingbird muses
Of rivers and ruses
Of heartache and bruises
And you will return then
And I will be home
And I may not want you
But we will continue
To see what this is
Cause you need to go on
And I need to go on
Our story will go on
Cause it must and it will
Because it must and it will
Go on, go on, go on
Go without me
I'll go without you
Go on, go on, go on
Go without me
I'll go without you
All Or Nothing lyrics - Paula Cole
Get a grip, on myself, 'cause my unconscious is killing us
She's neglected, subdued, an angry child, holding court
What is it going to be? You gonna make up your mind now?
What is it going to be? Cause it's all or nothing
What is it going to be? You gonna show up and try now?
What is it going to be? It's all or nothing
We sail on, years in, half a lifetime, come and gone
If we want this, we must be brave, speak truth, listen
What is it going to be? I'm waiting on my own life now
What is it going to be? Cause it's all or nothing
What is it going to be? Are we getting inside the car now?
What is it going to be? It's all or nothing
Holding, hurting, surviving
Escaping, failing, humbling
Cause I'm trapped upon this cycle on repeat
What is it going to be? Every day is life or death now
What is going to be? Cause it's all or nothing
What is it going to be? I'm waiting on my own life now
What is it going to be? Cause it's all or nothing
It's all or nothing
It's All Nothing
7 Deadly Sins lyrics - Paula Cole
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride
Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride
One: Lust. Dante defined lust as the disordered love of individuals, thus possessing at least the redeeming feature of mutuality.
Two: Gluttony. Overconsumption, overindulgence. To go down and swallow. Anything to the point of waste.
Three: Greed. Avarice, covetousness. It is a lot like lust. It is a sin of desire. Plunges a man deep into the mire of this world. It is an inordinate desire to acquire and possess more than one needs.
Your wicked ways
Your fall from grace
You never listened to your mother anyway
You never learned
You never learned
You never learned
Four: Sloth. A peculiar jumble of notions. It's often a failure to do things that we should. There's mental sloth, spiritual sloth, the physical state of sloth, the absence of interest.
Five: Wrath. Anger, rage, hatred. People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing.
Six: Envy. The most potent cause of unhappiness. To be sad or resentful towards the shapes or possessions of someone else.
Seven: Pride. The never-failing voice of fools. Love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor.
Your wicked ways
Your fall from grace
You never listened to your mother anyway
Your wicked ways
Your fall from grace
You never listened to your father anyway
You never learned
You never learned
You never learned
Step by step I'll get to heaven
Good deed by good deed, better
I'll work to make some leverage
I'll find my inside
Step by step I'll get to heaven
Good deed by good deed, better
(Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride)
I'll work to get some leverage
I'll find my inside
Step by step I'll get to heaven
Good deed by good deed, better
(Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride)
I'll work to get some leverage
I'll find my inside
Step by step I'll get to heaven
Good deed by good deed, better
(Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride)
I'll work to make some leverage
I'll find my inside
Step by step I'll get to heaven
Good deed by good deed, better
(Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride)
I'll work to make some leverage
The Ecology (Mercy Mercy Me) lyrics - Paula Cole
Oh, mercy, mercy me
Things ain't what they used to be, no, no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the North and South and East
Oh, mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be, no, no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury, oh
Oh, mercy, mercy me
Mmm, things ain't what they used to be, no, no
Radiation underground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oh... mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, have mercy...
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oh... mercy, mercy... take care of one another
Mercy mercy me...
Oh... please have mercy on our planet, please have mercy on my sister
Please have mercy on my father, mother, brother and us all...
Oh...
Undertow (One Life Lost) lyrics - Paula Cole
One life lost is one too many
One life lost is blood on our soul
One species gone a book closed eternally
One life lost to the Undertow
There's blood on my hands that I can't wash free
I kneel in the river praying to be saved
I wring out my shirt and I weep with the knowing
That one life lost is too many
One life lost is too many
One life lost is one too many
One species gone is a crime of the soul
One planet waiting to shake and transform
From the greed and malevolence of the Undertow
We long to be the angels we feel in our hearts
But we struggle and claw what we love apart
And as long as this legacy lives I'll have blood on my hands
For one life lost is too many
One life lost is too many
One life lost is one too many
One life lost is blood on our soul
One species gone a book closed eternally
One life lost to the Undertow
When I walk the field of flowers
I want to know for whom I sing
I want redemption washing us clean
I want to hear freedom, sweet freedom ring
For one life lost is too many
One life lost is too many
One life lost is one too many
One life lost is blood on our soul
One species gone is a book closed eternally
One life lost to the Undertow
There's a pain in my heart that wakes me
There's blood on my hands I can't wash it
There's a cold hard wisdom in what I know
One life, one life, one life, one life, one life, one life
One Life
Universal Empathy lyrics - Paula Cole
What the Universe needs right now is some mutual understanding
The good and gentle kindnesses in every day actions
In the best of ourselves lies a child full of hope
One who feels every sunset and tree, elephant and crow
This is the root of the dwelling place of every living soul
Connection!
All you white men, guarding your gates, know your privilege it comes
From the luck of the lottery, some bullshit genetic caste system
You had a mother, so why you gonna take her down?
Give us our equality, our choice, our bodies are our own
Connection!
Connection to our Universal Empathy
Oceans full of plastic killing those who cannot speak
Such an immoral/needless waste of rainforest biodiversity
The planet needs her oxygen, we people need her trees
This blindness is a murdering of every living being
Connection!
Feeling connection to our Universal Empathy
We send our brothers off to jails, to a system of deceit
Bail is based on skin color, the darker you are, the longer you're in
Then working for slave wages for corporate plantations
Profiteering from free labor, they want to build more prisons
While children go to foster care and families
Are broken
Connection!
Feeling Connection to our Universal Empathy
I want to get militant, I want to divide and scream
But I think on Dr. Martin Luther King's dream
I know that in every soul regardless of their skin
Or age or sex or identity lies the empathy within
Connection!
Feeling Connection to our Universal Empathy
OM, OM, OM, OM, OM
Relax, and breathe, and look within to your third eye
Relax, and breathe, and listen to your heartbeat
Heartbeat
Relax, and breathe, and look within to your third eye
Relax, and breathe, and listen to your heartbeat
Heartbeat
Connection!
Feeling connection to our Universal Empathy
Connection to Ourselves and to the Mother and Us All
Connection to our Universal Empathy
Dhammapada lyrics - Paula Cole
Conquer the angry by not getting angry
Conquer the wicked by goodness
Conquer the stingy by generosity
Conquer the liar by speaking only truth
Conquer the angry by equanimity
Conquer the wicked by goodness
Conquer the stingy by generosity
Conquer the liar by speaking only truth

God Bless The Child lyrics - Paula Cole
(originally by Billie Holiday)
Them that's got shall get
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Yes, the strong get's more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Money, you've got lot's of friends
Crowding round your door
But When your'e gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
No no they don't come around so lonely
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Money, you've got lot's of friends
Crowding round your door
But When your'e gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
Give'em light
Give'em hope
Give'em heart
God bless the child
I Wish (I Knew How It Feels To Be Free) lyrics - Paula Cole
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holdin' me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
For the whole round world to hear
I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart
Remove all the bars that keep us apart
Oh, I wish you could know what it means to be me
Then you'd see and agree
That every man child should be free
Well, I wish I could give all I'm longin' to give
I wish I could live like I'm longin' to live
Oh, I wish I could do all the things that I can do
Though I'm way overdue
I'd be starting anew
Well, I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And I'd sing 'cause I'd know, yeah
I would sing 'cause I'd know, yeah
I would sing 'cause I'd know
Mmm hmm hmm, whoo
Mmm
Mmm hmm hmm hmm, yeah
Whoo
Ode To Billy Joe lyrics - Paula Cole
It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And mama hollered out the back door, y'all, remember to wipe your feet
And then she said, I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today, Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
And papa said to mama, as he passed around the blackeyed peas
Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits, please
There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow
And mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
And brother said he recollected when he, and Tom, and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
I'll have another piece-a apple pie; you know, it don't seem right
I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge
And now ya tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
And mama said to me, child, what's happened to your appetite?
I've been cookin' all morning, and you haven't touched a single bite
That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge
A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
And brother married Becky Thompson; they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round; papa caught it, and he died last spring
And now mama doesn't seem to want to do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge
You've Changed lyrics - Paula Cole
I've an awful feeling that
This thought that's been a-stealing
Through my brain
Is not to be ignored
But to really tell the truth
Though I'm not a well known sleuth
I honestly believe
That you are bored
You've changed
That sparkle in your eye is gone
Your smile is just a careless yawn
You're breaking my heart
You've changed
You've changed
You're kisses now are so blase
You're bored with me in every way
I can't understand
You've changed
You've forgotten the words 'I love you'
Each memory that we've shared
You ignore every star above you
I can't realize you've ever cared
You've changed
You're not the angel I once knew
No need to tell me that we're through
It's all over now
You've changed
What A Little Moonlight Can Do lyrics - Paula Cole
Ooh, woo, woo
What a little moonlight can do
Ooh, woo, woo
What a little moonlight can do to you
You're in love
Your heart's a-flutter and all day long
You only shudder 'cause your poor tongue
Just won't utter the words "I love you"
Ooh, woo, woo
What a little moonlight can do
Wait a while
'Til a little moonbeam comes peepin' through
You'll get bold
You can't resist him
And all you'll say
When you have kissed him is
Ooh, ooh, woo
What a little moonlight can do
You'll get bold
You can't resist him
And all you'll say
When you have kissed him is
Ooh, ooh, woo
What a little moonlight can do
I'm Old Fashioned lyrics - Paula Cole
(originally by Nan Wynn)
I'm old fashioned
I love the moonlight
I love the old fashioned things
The sound of rain
Upon a window pane
The starry song that April sings
This year's fancies
Are passing fancies
But sighing sighs, holding hands
This my heart understands
I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I wanna be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me
The sound of rain
Upon a window pane
The starry song that April sings
This year's fancies
Are passing fancies
But sighing sighs, holding hands
This my heart understands
I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I wanna be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me
